Oreo Tiramisú
This tiramisu is honestly so ridiculously good.I HIGHLY encouraged you to make this dessert. Tiramisu is actually not one of my favorite desserts but I didn’t want to make an actual tiramisu. I just needed to add a little bit of an oomph in the recipe to please my palate. Adding crushed Oreo cookies as a base to a mascarpone whip might just be one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time!!
This isn't exactly your classic Tiramisu. The Italian version is made with lady fingers, coffee, and plenty of mascarpone cheese and rum. This version is obviously non-alcoholic and more like a tribute of the technique and replaces the lady fingers with crushed Oreos. It's a simple dessert that feels like a grown up version of cookies and cream parfait!!
Like I mentioned, I am not a huge tiramisu fan BUT boy oh boy…have I been converted after this one!! Also I think why I loved it so much was the taste of coffee was subtle and not over powering. Although am all for dark chocolate and a good cup of cappuccino….without sugar!!….I feel there was something off putting about the taste of strong coffee in “A tiramisu” . Even my husband isn’t a fan but after having this version with the Oreos, said his mind was blown!!
Italian Tiramisu is a no-bake espresso-flavored dessert and dusted with cocoa before serving.Have you ever asked yourself how to make Tiramisu? Its really quiet simple then one would think.
ESPRESSO
I usually pick up crushed espresso beans at my favorite coffee shop as I can't replicate the taste of a professional coffee machine at home. Espresso is the coffee of choice in authentic Italian Tiramisu.
However, if you have an awesome coffee machine at home, you can absolutely use your favorite brewed coffee instead.
Also, coffee granules or instant coffee dissolved in hot water work. Actually every type of coffee works for this recipe. Since coffee is such an integral part of this dessert, only use coffee that you like the taste of.
MASCARPONE
I recommend using quality mascarpone. My favorites are BelGioioso and Galbani. Be sure that you don't interchange it for ricotta.
EGGS
In this espresso-flavored dessert, raw egg yolks are usually used. So, please be sure to use only fresh eggs.
COCOA
I would highly recommend to use Dutch-processed unsweetened cocoa powder for dusting on top
Ingredients
2 ½ cups Oreos, crushed
4 egg yolks
½ cup sugar
2 tablespoons water
1 ¾ cups mascarpone
1/2 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
1 cup brewed coffee, strong to mild….as you prefer
Cocoa powder, for dusting on top
Instructions:
On top of a pot of boiling water, place a medium glass bowl (the bowl should fit over the heated pot so it sits without any boiling water overflowing). In the glass bowl, beat the egg yolks with sugar and water until it creates a foam. Carefully, remove the pot with the glass bowl from heat, and continue mixing with an electric beater until it cools.
In another bowl, beat the mascarpone with the heavy cream and vanilla until whipped and consistent. Add the egg yolk mixture with enveloping, circular motions.
To assemble, place a layer of crushed Oreos, pour with a spoon or drench (as you prefer) with coffee, I kept a light hand on it.
Now spread the mascarpone cream on top. Continue to layer all 3 in the same order twice.
Dust with cocoa powder.
Refrigerate for 1 hour. Serve and enjoy!
